Shells are such a sweet decoration choice for a coastal destination wedding. There are more varieties than you’ll be able to get your head around and they can be sprinkled across your décor as thick or as thin as you fancy.

Here are our top 3 choices for sea shells at your wedding, making sure the overall look is subtle and authentic and not at all twee:

Wedding Cake

Decorative shells on a wedding cakes look gorgeous and we particularly like the cakes that keep it simple with just a topping of shells, such as the razor clam shells in the photo above. Another design that we’ve seen a lot of recently is using shells for a cascading effect on a tiered cake, which is really striking and doesn’t come with the price tag of flowers. Use different shapes and sizes to create the natural look.

Bouquets and Button Holes

Sea shells don’t just have to be used as decoration, they can be incorporated in the bride, grooms and bridal party’s outfits too. Again, we especially love the subtle hints of the coastal wedding here; adding one shell per button hole arrangement or bouquet along with the usual foliage and flowers. However, we must admit, a bouquet created completely out of shells would certainly keep all eyes on the bride!

Name Place Cards

We’re definitely all about getting creative with name place cards and using shells as the basis for your table names would be such a good wedding DIY project. Write the names directly on them, dangle a small shell off them or insert a piece of card in them we don’t mind, just make sure you play around with this idea as it’s so affective and again cost efficient!
