Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue... A lovely wedding tradition that is still being incorporated into weddings today.

Some brides have these four items solely as part as their bridal outfit on the day, but more and more people are incorporating them somewhere within the entire wedding - so it really is, as with anything to do with a wedding, entirely up to you.

Something old...

Something borrowed and something old usually go hand in hand as they often come from family members. It might be:

  • A family heirloom
  • An item your mum wore at her wedding
  • An item you might be renting for the big day

What did I choose? I wore my antique engagement ring on my right hand on my wedding day and I had this as my something old.

Something new...

This is the easiest one to plan as there'll probably be one new item that you plan to wear that you've bought new for your big day, including:

  • Your wedding dress
  • Your shoes
  • A veil / headress
  • Some jewellery

What did I choose? I had a beautiful dress made for my wedding day and so wanted that to represent my something new.

Something borrowed...

What did I choose? I borrowed my mum's garter that also had a blue ribbon so it was my something blue too.

Something blue...

If you're having a shade of blue in your colour scheme then you're in luck with your something blue. Otherwise, you can incorporate it subtlety with:

  • Earrings / small studs
  • Lingerie
  • Painted nails

What did I choose? The subtle blue bow on my mums garter was just the right amount of something blue on my wedding day as it was tucked away out of sight!
